As per a report in a major regional newspaper an India, N.Venkatraman, a seisomologist from Chennai University following a research announced that there is an 80% chance of a major earthquake of magnitude 7.0 (Richter Scale) on 2nd Jan, 2006.
The epicenter will be in the islands within Eastern Sumatra. The north eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh as well as Himachal Pradesh might as well experience the effects.
The other places that might be affected as per the reports are San Francisco in U.S.A, Ryukyu Islands in Japan.
