Google recently announced that it opening up the Analytics service to the public for free. However, they had to immediately take down the service as they weren't able to handle the load of new requests (yes..even Google can fail).
Currently, users trying to sign up for the service are welcomed with "Please try back later" message like the ones often seen on home page of startups in alpha/beta phase. Google still needs to grow up.
