Did you test drive your RSS feed?

I often use the inbuilt RSS reader in my mail client to subscribe and follow few blogs of interest and at times I come across certain posts which go haywire in my reader.
So, my point is how many of you ever tested how your feeds appear in different RSS readers? If you haven't done so yet I think you'd have to immediately put aside whatever you are doing and go test your feeds first. (ofcourse, only after you finish reading my post ;-))

Things to look for when you test:
1. The format of your posts. If you use lot of fancy HTML make sure it is all being displayed "perfectly".
2. If you have an inbuilt form for the user to post comments make sure that it actually works.

I was trying to post comment on Martin's blog through my RSS reader and annoyingly enough it didn't work. Upon submitting the form, it didn't provide me any confirmation and all it returned was an empty page which left me in blue. (now you know who inspired this post)

True, test them! I have also experienced many times malformed RSS feeds which my reader couldn't parse

Seeing I'm your inspiration for this post :-) can you let me in on the what, the where, and the how...

I've seen my fair share of screwed up rss feeds and I know how annoying it is - and embarrasing for the blogger (hence my red face right now).

Hi there Martin --

It wasn't really an error but I think more of usability issue. Let me explain step-wise:

1. Used the inbuilt RSS reader in thunderbird to respond to a post using the form included at the bottom.
2. After having filled all the info and upon submitting the form, I was directed to a blank page on your website.

Now, that really didn't help me realize if the comment has been posted/awaiting moderation etc. It'd have helped if the form returned the status of my comment instead of a blank page.

HTH.
& BTW..thanks for stopping by.

Regards,
